Since 1997, Structure Design has partnered with architects, developers, and owners to help bring ambitious buildings and complex structures to life.
Founded by Peter Boardman as a two-person practice, the firm grew steadily through word of mouth, relocating to Parnell in 2003 to better support clients across Auckland and beyond. In 2013, Directors Ashley Smith and Jon Haagh joined the practice. Together, the leadership team brings more than 100 years of combined structural engineering experience, delivering landmark, high-value, and heritage projects.
Since 2023 Structure Design has expanded into offices in Tauranga and Queenstown and grown our leadership team with the addition of Gabriela Tufare, Tim Swager and Brendan Donnell. Our team of structural engineers and technicians work collaboratively to deliver high-quality structural engineering solutions for projects throughout New Zealand and internationally.

We are early adopters of smart technology, including Building Information Management (BIM) software. With more than two decades of experience in Revit, our 3D structural models are well coordinated to reduce clashes and allow design information to flow smoothly from concept to construction. That means fewer surprises on site and a cleaner path to delivery.
