For large or complex projects, we recommend involving peer reviewers at concept stage to align on key assumptions and methods early. For conventional, smaller projects, review typically starts once the design documentation is complete.
Initial review may take 1–4 weeks depending on the scale and complexity of the project (sometimes longer for staged projects), culminating in the issue of a peer review comments register. The building designer would typically aim to respond to the peer review comments and update their design documentation within 1-3 weeks. If programme is critical, we recommend a contingency period is allowed for any issues that require more detailed discussion to resolve. Auckland Council policy requires the peer review process to be complete before a Building Consent application is submitted.
