PACIFIC LAKES VILLAGE PAVILION: A WARM AND WELCOMING HUB FOR RESIDENTS AND THEIR GUESTS

The Pacific Lakes retirement village is located on a greenfield site between Papamoa and Mount Maunganui. The Pavilion building is a beautiful, warm and inviting space in the heart of the village where residents can come together. It features a hydrotherapy pool and spa, a gym, library, yoga studio, billiards room, flexible meeting/hall area and a large open plan dining, bar and café area.

We were engaged to design the structure for this single-storey timber building.

Benefits of having us on the team:
  • We were integral to realising the architect’s vision of a light and airy building with the hardwood-finished timber-framed structure exposed to view. The finished design is soft, warm and welcoming. We helped the architect achieve design rigour for the building by applying regularity to the structure.

  • The client benefitted from our relationships with timber suppliers, manufacturers, and timber construction specialists, which meant we were able to help specify materials that were appropriate, viable and buildable.

  • The architect was invested in a timber structure. The quantity surveyor pushed to change to steel from a cost perspective. We provided cost information to demonstrate that the finished timber structure was comparable in price to steel. This helps to retain the desired look and feel of the Pavilion which, given its size, could have become cold and industrial.
