IBIS HOTEL, AUCKLAND AIRPORT:

SPEEDING UP CONSTRUCTION THROUGH INNOVATIVE STRUCTURAL DESIGN

We were the structural engineers on this building, which is constructed from a mix of concrete and steel.  This facade is load bearing precast concrete.

In order to speed up construction of the upper levels, we designed an innovative precast concrete framing and flooring system.  This allowed the upper levels to be poured at the rate of one floor per week.

Benefits of having us on the team:
  • The innovative precast concrete framing and flooring system reduced the overall construction time by 6 weeks.

  • As well as saving significant construction costs, the client was able to start to earn income off the building much sooner than anticipated.

We were asked on the back of this project, to design an extension to add a further 50 rooms.  We used the same system as on the original building, which again ensured the project was completed on time.
