How would you describe your role?
I’m the integrator, essentially the glue that holds things together. My focus is on ensuring Structure Design delivers 100% of the time for our clients and on continuously improving the way we do things so that we become the structural engineering practice of choice for clients’ complex and innovative projects.
What’s the key thing you want to achieve over the next 12 months?
We’ve focused a lot on our internal processes to date and the next 12 months are going to be more of the same. The most important thing for me is that we deliver all client projects on time and within the client’s budget, and that all our designs meet our clients’ needs. I am all about opening up communication within our teams ensuring they challenge the status quo and look for smart solutions. I’m going to be working away in the background doing everything I can to support this. This includes looking at how we can be disruptive in the use of technology to work smarter and empower the team to find new and better ways to deliver innovative, but cost effective structural designs.
What’s your background?
I’ve been with Structure Design for over 20 years and have seen it grow from a one man band into a niche structural design practice. I’m not an engineer so tend to take a holistic approach to the business. My key strengths are my ability to listen, question things, and provide an environment that our team can brainstorm to find new and improved ways of working.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
“Never stop communicating, always ask questions, but most importantly stop and listen to what others are saying – the solution is just a conversation waiting to be had.”
