Greg Reibel

DRAFTEE

BIM Manager and Senior Structural Draftsman, with more than 35 years' experience plus a further 10 years as a software trainer for Revit and AutoCAD. I also taught CAD at Unitec many years ago!

My role is to help our draftees use our design tools more productively. Essentially it’s about helping them work out how to draft / model their projects better. I also train our engineers in BIM as they need to understand what it takes to make good drawings. Plus I get involved as draftee on some of our larger projects.

You can expect me to listen to your needs and deliver to these within your project parameters. I will help you to better understand the structure through 3D designs. Because our models can be combined with those of the architect, services engineers etc. we can identify potential clashes early. This reduces the cost of fixing them onsite.

Work highlights have included:
  • Working as a draftee on specific areas of the iconic Skytower building. I get a kick every time I walk or drive past, knowing that I had a lot of input.
  • Spending 5 years working on Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, another iconic building. It was reassuring to see it stood up to the 2016 Kaikoura / Wellington earthquake.
  • Drafting/Modeling Building 405, the Engineering School at the University of Auckland. This was my first real drafting job after returning to the industry following 10 years as a software trainer for Revit. The project flowed much more smoothly than I’d anticipated - both a result of the engineers I was working with and my confidence in what I was doing.
Interests:

I enjoy travelling around Australia and the Pacific Islands. There are a lot of amazing places to explore on our doorstep.
